How a crypto-to-crypto conversion works through USDT

A coin-to-coin reference rate is the source coin's USDT price divided by the target coin's USDT price. Learn how to check the calculation and read the chart.

A converter can show a SOL/ZEC rate even when it does not read a direct SOL/ZEC order book. It can derive a reference rate from two prices quoted against the same asset, USDT. This is the method used for coin-to-coin results on Crypto Exchange.

The calculation

First, read the source coin's price in USDT and the target coin's price in USDT. Divide the first by the second: source-to-target rate = source/USDT price ÷ target/USDT price. Multiply that rate by the amount you entered. When one side is USDT, its reference value in this calculation is 1.

For an illustration only, suppose SOL is 100 USDT and ZEC is 50 USDT at the same snapshot. The reference rate is 100 ÷ 50 = 2 ZEC for 1 SOL, so 4 SOL would give 8 ZEC before costs. These round numbers are an example, not current market prices. You can check a live calculation in the SOL/ZEC converter.

Why the result may differ from a trade

The displayed result is a reference estimate. A trading venue may quote a different price for a direct pair or route a trade through other assets. Its order book has a bid and ask, and your final amount may also reflect trading fees, withdrawal charges or network costs. A large order can move through several price levels. Check the venue's final quote before acting.

Fresh quote versus historical chart

The current coin/USDT prices are fetched in a shared batch and cached for about one minute. If a fresh fetch fails, the last available snapshot can remain visible and be marked stale. A chart uses a different clock: completed daily closes in UTC. For a coin-to-coin chart, the converter divides the two USDT closing prices on dates available for both assets. The last chart point is therefore not the same thing as the current quote.
